Georgia Pediatric Program for Children (GAPP)

Supporting medically-fragile children in the comfort of home

At Special Heart Home Care LLC, our home-based pediatric care services are customized to the unique needs of each family and child. We understand that every child’s situation is different, which is why we design flexible care plans that adapt to your child’s medical and personal needs.

In-Home Nursing & Personal Care Services

Under the GAPP, we provide a wide range of nursing and personal care services designed for children who require ongoing skilled support. These services may include:

  • Assistance with daily living activities: bathing, meals, light housekeeping
  • Monitoring vital signs: blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature
  • Mobility support: ambulation assistance and transfers
  • Complex therapies: IV therapies, wound care, tube feedings
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders management
  • And many other specialized skilled nursing services

What is GAPP – Who Qualifies?

The Georgia Pediatric Program for Children (GAPP) is a Medicaid/Katie Beckett waiver program that offers free or no-cost home and community-based services to medically-fragile children under age 21 who need skilled nursing and personal care in their home. Services are based on the child’s medical needs rather than just their income.

Can I qualify if I don’t meet standard Medicaid income requirements?

Yes. Through the Katie Beckett Waiver (also called the Deeming Waiver), a child under age 18 may become eligible for Medicaid services independent of the parents’ income. This means that if the child meets the medical eligibility criteria, your family may qualify for the same services that other Medicaid-eligible children receive.

What is the GAPP Approval Process?

  1. A care coordinator from [YOUR ORGANIZATION NAME] visits your home to complete the initial application paperwork.
  2. You sign the consent form allowing us to request the child’s medical records.
  3. We collect the required qualifying documentation and submit your application to the GAPP decision team.
  4. The decision team reviews the application and determines eligibility.
  5. Once approved, we contact your family and begin home-based nursing/personal care services immediately.
  6. Typical approval timeframe: approximately 30 to 60 days from submission to service start.
